F.A.Q.

What is CampusOnline.no?

CampusOnline.no is a web school that offers complete web-based, approved Norwegian courses for adult immigrants. If you want to learn norwegian online, CampusOnline.no is the service to choose. All of the courses include compulsory online supervision sessions. Upon completion of the course you will be sent a certificate containing information about completed hours and supervision sessions. Read more about campusOnline.

What does it mean that the courses are “approved”?

The Norwegian instruction on CampusOnline.no is approved by VOX - the Norwegian Agency for Lifelong Learning - and is in compliance with the Act of 4 July 2003, no. 80 relating to introduction arrangements and Norwegian teaching for newly-arrived immigrants.

Upon completion of the course you will be sent a certificate with information about the number of completed hours and supervision sessions. In order to receive permanent residency in Norway, documentation of 250/550 hours of Norwegian language instruction and 50 hours of instruction in social studies is required, or a pass in norskprøven A1-A2 or A2-B1, both written and oral. The approved instruction and certificate from the web-school CampusOnline.no is recognized by the Police and the Norwegian Immigration Authorities as documentation in an application for permanent residency.

Norwegian Law demands that the total number of hours with Norwegian language and social studies instruction must take place after initial residency has been granted. Any instruction undertaken prior to initial residency cannot be used as documentation when applying for permanent residency in Norway. Such instruction can however be used to help achieve a pass in Norskprøven.

If you hold a residency permit that grants you right and duty to language tuition after 1. september 2013, you will have to conclude your tution with an exam.

You can choose to take the exam or not if you:

  • have only the right or only the duty to tuition
  • hold a residency permit that grants you right and duty to language tuition before 1. september 2013
  • if you are in Norway in accordance with EEA regulation
  • if you are an asylum seeker

What do the courses contain?

All of the courses (3, 6 or 12 months) include:

  • Individual schedule
  • Language test for participants who are not beginners - the test result recommends the level at which you should begin.
  • Independent work with reading and listening to texts, videos, etc.
  • Independent work with interactive assignments (word and content comprehension, grammar, spelling, etc.)
  • Submission of self-produced oral and written texts, which the online supervisor corrects and comments on.
  • Oral communication via Skype and other video conference systems

For a detailed description of each individual course, see our course list and click on the course that you would like to learn more about.

For whom is web-based instruction suitable?

Web-based instruction is a good solution for you if you do not have the possibility to take part in traditional classroom instruction due to work, family obligations, travel or a general lack of spare time, or because you essentially are happiest working online. Online studies can also be a good supplement to classroom instruction. In this way the web-based instruction provides increased opportunities for quicker progression through the study programme.

Is it necessary to buy workbooks?

Veien inn has no workbooks. The programme Migranorsk is supplemented by three workbooks: A1, A2 and B1. The books contain many exercises and grammar explanations. Each book costs NOK 285 + postage and can be bought at a bookstore or directly from Fagbokforlaget"s webshop. There is an answer key available in pdf format for workbooks A1, A2 og B1. For those with spare time who want to practice more, we recommend purchasing the workbooks.

What happens if I have used up all of my course hours for the stipulated time period?

If you want to do more hours than that which you have scheduled per month, you must form an agreement on this with your online supervisor. You will normally not have access to the course beyond the hours you have paid for, even if time should remain before the end-date. You must then buy a new course. It is also possible to purchase access to the educational resources only (without an online supervisor) if you like, or to do this for a transition period
